Friday Feature: Jack White | Blunderbuss

Since the Grammy Awards are this Sunday, I thought it felt appropriate to do a music feature for today’s post.  And what better than to do one that a Grammy nominated performer?

Today I bring you Jack White‘s album, Blunderbuss.

I have been a Jack White fan for several years and was excited that he did a solo album.  I think my attraction to Blunderbuss (and really most of his music) is the bluesy feel of it.  I’m a big blues fan, and that comes through on Blunderbuss.  Some stand out songs for me are “Hypocritical Kiss” (LOVE the piano in this), “Trash Tongue Talker”, “I Guess I Should Go to Sleep” and “Sixteen Saltines”.

But my favorite two have to be the classic Rockabilly song ”I’m Shakin’” and the bass driven “Freedom at 21″.

I dare you to not tap your feet:

And this video…  Muscle car. Eccentric Deppian* performance. Guy liner. Sexy as hell.  Hello masterpiece.

(Once you watch “Freedom at 21″, just let that Jack White VEVO playlist play.  It’s a real treat.)

I found this little gem too:

“6. Jack White – unplugged

White’s nominations, Blunderbuss is up for album of the year and best rock album, and Freedom at 21 is nominated for best rock song. So he was guaranteed a performing spot. But he told The Hollywood Reporter this week that he had no intention of rehearsing. So we’re giving him the Too Cool for School award.”

Be sure to check out this album and tune in on Sunday to root Jack on and watch his performance at the Grammys.  The Grammy Awards are on Sunday, Feb 10th at 8/7C on CBS.

*Deppian – that’s a word now.  I just made it one.
